In an emergency, the hardest question to answer is often the simplest one: where are you? Somebody who has fallen on an unfamiliar footpath, or who feels too unwell to think clearly, may not be able to say.
When an alert reaches our monitoring centre, the device's location appears alongside the wearer's file. Our operators use it to guide a relative, a key holder or the emergency services to the right place, and they keep talking to the wearer while they do it.
Nominated family members can also check the device's location in the TrueKare app at other times — useful for reassurance rather than surveillance, and always with the wearer's knowledge.
Location technology is helpful, not perfect. GPS and mobile positioning do not provide guaranteed pinpoint accuracy: how close it lands depends on satellite and network signal, surrounding buildings, tree cover and whether the wearer is deep inside a building. Our operators always combine location data with speaking to the wearer.
